- Thickness – The thicker the steel that needs to be cut, the thicker your disc needs to be. Between 1mm and 1.6mm works best for mild steel, including stainless steel. For sheet metal, a 1mm or 0.8mm disc will work faster and leave less waste, while thick steel will need 1.6mm through to 2.5mm.
